The agreement signed between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Holding involves upgrading access to popular areas such as Palm Jumeirah, Business Bay and Jumeirah Village Circle. As part of the project, new roads, pedestrian and automobile bridges will be built, which will ensure more comfortable traffic on key routes.
Among the locations where work will be carried out are Dubai Islands, Jumeirah Village Triangle, Palm Gateway, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, as well as Arjan, Majan, Liwan (Phase 1), Nad Al Hamar, Villanova and Serena districts. Images of the plans released by the Dubai Media Office show improvements such as additional pedestrian bridges on Palm Jumeirah’s main artery, new roads in Business Bay near Bay Square, and infrastructure developments in JVC and International City 2.
The ambitious project is part of a larger plan to improve infrastructure in the emirate, where the population is growing rapidly. Last month, the Railbus project was presented at the World Summit of Governments, which involves the creation of a new transport network to complement existing metro and tram routes.
In addition, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved a five-year plan to transform the road network in the emirate. The plan includes 21 projects covering 12 residential, commercial and industrial areas, with the creation of 634 kilometers of new roads worth 3.7 billion dirhams.
In December, Dubai unveiled a map of a proposed new road network that will improve traffic in 19 residential areas, including Al Barsha and Jumeirah. The 11.5-kilometer project is expected to reduce travel time by up to 40%.
